Issuing Badges
The College of Engineering uses Credly for digital badges. Learn how to prepare the Credly template with student data.
Prepare the Credly CSV Template for Issuing Badges
1. Gather your student data:
- If your credential is offered through Canvas, see the article, How do I export grades in the Gradebook?
- If you have a different method and are unsure, contact us.
2. Format and filter your data:
- If the student first and last names are both in one column in your spreadsheet, separate them so each name populates its own column. See this video demo: Separating First and Last Names in a CSV File
- Filter your spreadsheet data to pinpoint specific students. See this video demo: Filtering Data in a CSV File
- Note: It’s okay if a Credly template includes students who already received a badge. The system ignores those requests. All new students will receive the badge.
3. Download the Credly CSV Template
4. Populate the CSV template, save it, and email it to your contact at the Office for Digital Learning.
This video demonstrates what is needed in the Credly template:
As shown in the video, the required fields in the CSV template are:
- student first name, last name, and email
- issuing date
- name of course (add this to the Badge Template ID column)
Note on Series Completion Badges: If your course is part of a series that offers a series completion badge, it is your responsibility to keep track of the badge earners and notify the Office for Digital Learning when a series completion badge should be issued.
