How do I enable live captions in Zoom as a host?

Step 1: Enable Closed Captions in Zoom Settings

You will need to enable the Closed captioning feature in your Zoom account settings before you can enable captions during your meetings or webinars.

  1. Log in to your Zoom web portal.
  2. In your Zoom profile, click Settings from left-hand menu.
  3. On the Meeting tab, scroll down to the In Meeting (Advanced) section.
  4. Use the toggle switches to the right of automated captions, full transcript, and save captions settings to enable the features you want.

Refer to text.

For information on Manual Captions, see the PSU Knowledge Base Article.

Step 2: Start Captions in a Meeting or Webinar

After enabling the caption settings in your Zoom account, you can turn on captions in your Zoom events.

  1. In your Zoom meeting or webinar, click the Live Transcript button in the Zoom meeting toolbar.
  2. NOTE: If you do not see the Live Transcript button in your toolbar, click the More button in your toolbar and select Live Transcript from the menu.

Select Live Transcript.

Step 3: Tell your participants that closed captioning is available

Closed captioning is now available in this event but will not display for your participants until they activate captions in their Zoom toolbar.

  1. At the start of the meeting or webinar, announce to your participants that closed captioning is available and that they can click on the Live Transcript button in their Zoom meeting toolbar to see them.

Step 4: For recorded Zoom sessions

If you are recording your Zoom session, the Zoom captions will automatically be pulled into Kaltura with the recording. To make edits to the captions in Kaltura, see the help article, Editing Captions.
