How can I communicate with students in Canvas before I have all the course content ready?
You can communicate information to students by posting an announcement in your Canvas course section before making any other course content available. These instructions walk you through the steps in Canvas to hide other sections of the course.
Create an Announcement
1. Log into your course and select the Announcements link from the left menu.
2. Select + Announcement to add a new announcement.
3. Add your course information in the text box.
4.Scroll down and click Save to save your announcement.
Hide Other Sections of the Course from Students
1. Select Settings from the left menu.
2. Select the Navigation tab.
3. Drag navigation links down to hide them from students, leaving just the Announcements link and the Homepage unhidden. (The Home page cannot be hidden. )
4. Scroll down and click Save to save the reordered navigation.
5. Select Home from the navigation menu to return to the Home page.
10.Select the Publish button to make the Announcements and Homepages visible to students.
Note: When you are ready to share all course content with the students, go back through these steps, and drag links back up to the top part of the navigation.
