Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add videos I already have to Canvas?

We strongly encourage faculty to use the Kaltura integration in Canvas for video delivery because it will automatically manage access rights so that the students in your course can watch the video. It also provides analytics and reporting so that you can review student engagement with video content.

Step 1: Upload your Video to Kaltura

To upload your video to Kaltura, login to Penn State MediaSpace  and view this tutorial on how to upload media.

Do not begin Step 2 until your media has processed (this typically takes one hour or less, but can be delayed during times of high use, like at the beginning of a semester.) Note that a Kaltura video is fully processed when a thumbnail appears next to the video on your “My Media” page. A video in process is indicated by spinning gears in place of the thumbnail.

Step 2: Publishing Videos Using the Media Gallery

See our FAQ: How to add videos to your Canvas course Media Gallery from Kaltura.
