Transition of Unit Projects

As we just finished our TEDTalks, I decided that I wanted to reflect on my own because I like to give myself feedback to remember for adjustment in the future.

After watching my TEDTalk multiple times, I think that ultimately my organization and flow of ideas was adequately done. I also think that my final recording that I chose to submit highlighted my presentation style in a positive way, which was something that I have been working on. Although I stumbled over my words a few times, I ultimately felt that it added a realness to my TEDTalk because I was trying hard to engage my audience and not focus on what I had to say. Another “mishap” that I want to point out is that in the middle of my talk I started to touch my face, but this was actually on purpose. There was a fly going around my head almost the whole time, and at that moment it almost went into my mouth so I had to other choice. Again, while I could have redone the whole thing, I really liked the tone of my presentation so I left it. Lastly, I tried to make my slides as visually appealing and supporting as possible without making the presentation overwhelming. While some slides still have words, graphs, or diagrams, I thought that they were necessary to providing context to what I was explaining.

Second, the Unit Three project is all about controversies. While I am not necessary up-to-date with a lot of things because I do not necessarily watch the news, some of the controversies that I could think of were censorship, health insurance, vaccinations, and minimum wage. All of these topics are generic ideas that can be specified down into a smaller idea. Also while majority of these topics can turn political, I believe that there are other factors that play into each of them that would make them a good talking points.

  1. Hi Elizabeth!
I think you have some good ideas for the project. The vaccination one could be very interesting and you can definitely discuss it from a nonpartisan view about how politics have impacted vaccine controversy.

  2. I also had the idea to talk about the vaccination, but your other ideas are also really cool too potentially look at it.

  3. It was a great performance and the disruption with the fly was understandable. The topics that you’ve come up with are interesting.

  4. I think your speech was great because the delivery appeared realistic. You were prepared and the “stumbles” made it feel realistic. It was kind of like a formal conversation. Your visuals were good looking and not distracting. I did not even notice the fly. Good Job.
