I am a firm believer in changing up your usual routine in life. I think that it adds some flare, keeps you motivated, and overall creates a greater experience. I find no exception to this rule when it comes to fitness.
There was a while in my fitness journey where I would put on my workout gear and head straight for the treadmill. Sure, my runs would vary in speed or in distance, but other than that I would still press go and start putting one foot in front of the other on a rubber belt.
Naturally, I got bored.
My motivation started to suffer and the next episode of Friends seemed way more appealing than huffing and puffing on a treadmill in my basement. I knew I needed to switch it up. One day, I was scrolling through instagram (probably procrastinating running) and I came across a post from my cousin. She had posted some pictures and videos of her new job as a Cyclestar at Cyclebar.
As I was looking at her post and caption, I thought to myself what a cool and positive environment it seems to be while also being a great workout. I had called up my friend who was in a similar workout slump as I was and basically forced her to sign up for their free beginner tutorial class.
We showed up the next week not knowing what to expect. We were both pretty nervous because we had never really gone to a fitness studio before and it must have showed as we walked through the doors. However, I have never met a more welcoming and enthusiastic staff. They invited us into the studio with smiling faces, free re-usable water bottles, and a tour of the studio. It is clear that they have a strong emphasis on customer service.
As you walk further in the are you are met with the locker area. Each locker comes with a customizable lock that the staff help you navigate. You can use your new water bottle at the chilled water taps, grab your towel, your complimentary spinning shoes, and get ready to ride.
The coolest part of it all is by far the cycling studio. The studio has a night club vibe with its dim lighting but use of colored lights. With three tiers of bikes facing a fully mirrored wall, it is definitely something that I had never seen before. All of the bikes in the studio have clip ins that attach to your shoes. They are a little tricky to get the hang of at first, but the employees are on the ready placed around the studio to help you get situated.
Now the time that you have all been waiting for: the class. I have been going to Cyclebar for a little over a year now and I can confidently say that every single class pushes you and every instructor that I have had has been absolutely amazing. The instructors are so motivational and even give multiple options for every move so that you can customize it based on you experience level. The use of the resistance knob on the bike and the arms for the arm exercises provide much room for growth throughout your time with Cyclebar.
I highly recommend Cyclebar to anyone who is looking for a great workout while being surrounded with great people, and having fun while doing so. And even if you don’t have a Cyclebar around you, I encourage you to try something in your area that pushes you outside of your comfort zone… you won’t regret it!
See you on the next stop 🙂
