Today, many conservatives often find their views on the vast majority of social media platforms suppressed, and even outright censored. I have seen this firsthand, as some of the conservative pages and conservative meme pages I follow on Facebook have often been temporarily banned, simply for posting a meme, or the meme has been taken down, for, “violating community guidelines.”
For one person, Cody Brown, he had had enough of it. According to an article in the National Review, In 2010, Brown signed on to manage the campaign of Iowa Republican Ben Lange, that was ultimately unsuccessful, as Brown found it difficult to reach out to fellow conservative citizens and activists.
That’s when Brown founded Codias. Brown says Codias as a free platform where like-minded individuals, groups, campaigns, and movements are able to reach out to one another by creating and sharing news and opinions. The author of the article says that, “Codias can be a resource to build a network of volunteers securely via advanced encryption technologies.” Brown himself says, “the site has a wide variety and from a campaign standpoint adds a lot of value.”
Brown says, “there are very few organizations that exist to equip the conservative movement with real power,”. Conservatives have often relied on other organizations that don’t exactly share the same objective, and Brown says Codias’s goal is to change that.
Brown says that Codias’s main goal is to arm conservatives with political warfare at the national, state, and local levels.
This I think is significant, because it allows people who’s voice is often suppressed, a platform to share among themselves, much like many of the movements we have discussed in class. However, I don’t think the goal of this site is to change the way people think or vote, I think its primary goal is to have a voice that’s heard, and so we are better able to engage in civic discourse with someone with an opposing view.
