Editorial Statement from Poetry Editor Kenneth Nolan III

The collective artistic conscious on campus seems to revolve around the ideas of introspection, the macabre, and an awareness of the world around us. This might be due to the political unrest in the country, the raising recognition of minority rights, and/or the destigmatization of mental health; perhaps a combination of the three– whatever is the reason, students at Penn State Harrisburg are prepared to open communication on campus and discuss ideas that matter. The recipient of our Best Poem award, Cassidy Snyder, encapsulates these three ideas in her piece entitled “Bitter Cold.” Similarly, poems such as Kelleigh Stevenson’s “Cherry Blossom” and Alex Hedly’s piece “My Child” capture the introspection one needs in order to understand the world better. The poems selected for this issue urge readers to carefully consider their position on Earth, and to keep an open-mind to the people around them. As the poetry editor, it was heartwarming to see many different perspectives come together to form an outstanding collection that showcases many ideas, forms, and subjects.
