We’re Open by Elizabeth Barrantes

I rise early, a night owl out of place.

Sleepy people reside in the fluorescent light of their cubicles I see from the street,

Reluctant to take on the day.

Others still warm, sunken deep in their beds.

Disregarding the waking city noises.

Blue hues cast through their bedroom windows.

They’re the ones I envy most.
