If your advisor is acting unethically or unprofessionally, and you need help…
If you feel that your advisor is requesting you to act in an unethical manner or treating you in way that is unfair and unprofessional, and you are not able to resolve the issue on your own, you are not alone. Every department in the Eberly College of Science has two appointed ombudspersons who can confidentially talk with you about your issues. An ombudsperson can serve as either your advocate, or, more commonly, as a neutral third party that can fulfill the role of mediator. Ombudspersons are excellent people to consult if you feel you need to change advisors because of your advisor’s behavior and/or actions.
At the time of writing, the two ombudspersons of the Department of Physics are Mauricio Terrones (mut11@psu.edu) and Kristin Purdy Drew (krp15@psu.edu).
