Hello everyone,
I am Farhan Sadique, a 2nd year Ph.D. student. I am currently working as a graduate assistant in the Department of Learning and Performance System. I’ve worked in retail management for three years before joining Penn State and performed differently to facilitate organizational development and change without actively pursuing the implementation plan as an OD practitioner. But I don’t possess much experience as an OD practitioner or consultant. I’ve completed my Masters’s from Pittsburg State University and lived in Kansas for about six years. I am originally from Bangladesh, and I love to travel around the world.
Need assessment was an important part of our daily management work, and we assessed the need of the department, customers, suppliers. At each stage of business, there are different strategies to assess needs and fulfill based on priority. As retail works with direct customers, the need fluctuates with customer trends or technologies. Many organizations contain different levels of decision-makers, and often the priorities are far different at different stages. Thinking from a whole system perspective, often much vague procedure makes more sense now, and thus I am curious to learn more about organization functionality and development strategy.
I want to learn more about facilitating the performance, as I always see myself in a leadership position. Someone can’t know everything about an organization, such as a finance manager with thirty-five years of experience can become a CEO, but how well can he handle an HR task? At some point, we all have to be the consultant and facilitate the performance. Performance management also does have a close relationship with Organization Development practices, and a consultant can choose to follow any of the strategies of performance management. I want to learn more about performance management strategies and how I can make a difference as a consultant.
