Our first X-FILEs Jam was a big success. Please check out the results at the Awards page.
The X-FILEs Jam is a one-day student-oriented event to generate ideas for improving STEM education in higher education. The X-FILEs Jam is a project associated with the eXploring the Future Innovative Learning Environments (X-FILEs) project.
Student teams generate ideas to the following challenge statement:
“Using what you’ve learned about innovative learning environments, create a solution that improves or enhances the student experience for a challenging dimension of college-level STEM education.”
FRAMEWORK
Four broad technology categories are incorporated to re-imagine how students may experience STEM education in the future:
- Personalized/Adaptive Learning,
- Multi-modal Formats,
- X-Reality, and
- AI/ML Technologies
Additionally, the student teams are encouraged to address where in the course experience these technologies (individually or a creative mix) may be applied. More about the technology categories and the course connection.
TEAM IDEA SOLUTION PROCESS
Student teams are guided through the process of posing idea solutions to the challenge statement. This process includes creating a storyline of a learner, identifying a “day-in-the-life” scenario, and crafting solutions that make learning accessible, flexible, creative, and engaging! More about the Jam Process.
AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
