Our Mission
To represent the Filipino community of PSU and promote cultural diversity within the PSU community and interaction of the members among themselves and with the community at large.
What We Do
Barrio Fiesta: Every spring semester, PSFA hosts one of Penn State’s biggest cultural shows, Barrio Fiesta. It showcases the culture of the Philippines through traditional dances, modern dances, skits, and musical acts. We prepare for the event by choreographing dances, creating costumes and props, writing skits, and attending weekly rehearsals. Friends, families, and alumni of PSFA fill the seats of the auditorium to support the members and experience the fun and exciting Filipino culture. We encourage every member to participate in Barrio Fiesta. No dancing/acting/singing experience required!
Fun fact: PSFA’s first Barrio Fiesta took place in 1995.
PHILANTHROPY: Throughout the year, we have the ability and privilege to raise money for different philanthropic projects and organizations. All efforts are for the betterment of Filipino people in both America and the Philippines. We work with groups like Shopee Philippines, Books for a Cause USA, and more.
FIND: PSFA is part of the Filipino Intercollegiate Networking Dialogue (FIND), an organization made up of the Filipino orgs from various universities and colleges in the East Coast. Every semester, dialogues and conferences are held to promote the unity and cooperation of Filipino students. FIND is comprised of 7 districts from Maine to Virginia. We represent District 5 (Pennsylvania, Delaware, and South New Jersey). To learn more about FIND, go here.
MAFA: PSFA is also part of the Midwest Association of Filipino Americans, which encompasses many of the Filipino-American/Asian-American organizations in the Midwest. MAFA focuses on preserving our roots and cultivating the development of Filipino student organizations through various events, including the Midwest Filipino-American Summit (MFAS) and the Filipino-Americans Coming Together conference (FACT).
Social events: PSFA is all about bonding with each other and becoming a family. We host various social events throughout to year such as field days, potlucks, game nights, etc. Everyone is welcome to attend. The more the merrier!
