Passion/TIB/Civic Issues

To start off with the Passion blog, I believe that I will keep the same theme and topic for it moving forward into the new semester. The subject of sports has always been an interest of mine and discussing conflicts arising in this field allow me to express certain viewpoints while also receiving creative feedback. For this go, I may delve into more collegiate sport conflicts because my audience, and I, can relate to it better.
Now for the “This I Believe” assignment, one topic I might focus on is how I believe that all people, especially the youth, should do more to attain personal success rather than financial success. Most people, including college students, push themselves so hard to earn a certain salary that they see as successful, instead putting their happiness as the top priority. Another theme could be in my trust in that instead of donating to big name organizations, people should focus on helping those around them, where they can actually see the effects of their actions. If everyone just helped their neighbors, the world would be in a much better place.
Finally for my Civic Issues Blog, I do not have a set topic yet, but I am interested in writing about different aspects of college (whether it be collegiate sports or effects of outside activities on grades) or the negative effects of the cutting of art programs across the country. As a student who has a strong passion for drama and the arts, I have seen the positive effects it can have. Yet, if I discuss different aspects of college, I already have great experience on the matter. This topic could go anywhere from student involvement to the effects of partying.

  1. Your ideas for each of the assignments seem to be very well thought out and can be used to delve further into your topic. With the “This I believe” project I personally like the belief of attaining personal success rather than financial success, because like you said, our generation today is more focused on obtaining a steady job than on their personal goals and dreams. Which as a result, causes more younger people to become stressed and feel like their life is unfulfilling in some sort of way. If people devoted more of their time to making themselves happy than maybe we wouldn’t have as much conflict in the world. With your Civic Issues blog you mentioned not being set on a topic, but it seems to me that a lot of the concerns you what to research and raise awareness about fall under the education category. I think this category could be particularly interesting to you, especially since one of the first example topics in the category is college sports, which is what you want your passion blog to be on.
