Hypertextuality
The film’s title is a literary allusion to Norman Angell’s 1910 book The Great Illusion, which argued that war simply “does not pay.” Angell says that the most common argument to justify war is to acquire economic gain. However, this gain is an illusion since greater wealth can be created through free trade and cooperation. Therefore, war is futile.
