School segregation by race and poverty is deepening in Virginia.

In an era of swift demographic change in both cities and suburbs, alongside sharply rising inequality, renewed attention to the dynamics of segregation grows more important. School district and attendance boundary lines that wall-off communities with highly differentiated wealth help structure segregation.
