Training is provided by the Child Study Center Training Institute

The recommended training involves a one-day workshop prior to initiating Friendship Group, and a mid-year booster training after initiating Friendship Group. In addition, supervision and coaching are available upon request.

Who can attend Friendship Group training workshops? 

Training workshops are intended for school personnel, including counselors, psychologists, behavioral specialists or other professionals working in a school setting or community program where the program is delivered.

What are the Friendship Group training workshop objectives?

At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the research base that informs the design of the Friendship Group Program.
  • Discuss the core components of Friendship Group
  • Discuss the developmental foundations of Friendship Group
  • Demonstrate the therapeutic processes utilized in implementation
  • Feel prepared to implement the Friendship Group Program

About the trainer

Sandra Stewart is a Master Friendship Group Trainer, and is currently the Project Director of Friendship Connections. She has been a trainer with Penn State since 1993 and has vast experience working with the Friendship Group Program.

Program Costs

Program costs include the manual (about $35) and a supply bin for group sessions (about $50)

Copying costs for program posters and hand-outs for participating children (about $5 per child)

Optional and recommended, training and on-going supervision. Training costs are $2500 per day, plus travel/per diem for trainer if training is done at the implementation site.
