In its post-Apis mellifera days, the honey bee observation hive has had some non-honey bee visitors. Currently, it harbors dozens of tiny parasitic wasps – parasitoids of wax moths that couldn’t resist an empty hive.
Also spotted was an adult wax moth and an early instar larvae with a very bleak future.
In other news, one of my favorite specimens I collected at a mercury-vapor lamp last night on the Frost group’s collecting trip was this long-necked ground beetle that I thought I’d share:

I found this specimen in the pinned collection. Can anyone guess what it is (was)? Feel free to guess what happened to it, too, because I have no idea.
