What involves a variety of sizes of boxes, thousands of different odonates, and a very long spreadsheet? Beatty collection organization! We are preparing to sort out the Odonata collection as our new cabinets are anticipated to arrive in mid-June.
Currently, our collection is a bit jumbled with Zygoptera interspersed with Anisoptera and taxa often not alphabetically ordered on a shelf. Over the past week, I have worked on going through the spreadsheet of the Frost Museum’s Odonata specimens, seeing what families we have and the relative order and space in which they will need to be placed in the cabinets.
While this sounds relatively simple, the myriad boxes and undigitized specimens will need to be accounted for in the organization of the new cabinets. Luckily, we will be hiring two research assistants who will be able to aid in this task. As a reminder, the application for those two positions will close today! Stick around for more updates from the Frost!
