Most you have probably seen recent news articles referring to Vespa mandarinia as “murder hornets” or some other such sensational, fear-inducing name. This beautiful wasp was recently discovered in the Pacific northwest, far from its native home in Japan, China, Korea, and neighboring countries. My colleague, Michael Skvarla has written an awesome fact sheet that sheds light on the situation. Check it out: https://extension.psu.edu/asian-giant-hornets
Is this wasp still in North America and spreading? Maybe not. Are they on the east coast? Definitely not (as of this writing). Everything you want to know can be found in that fact sheet!
