Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What courses are offered in each semester?

A: While course offerings are subject to change, you may refer to the recommended academic plan below. When in doubt, always talk to a faculty member teaching a GAME course.  Note that GAME 450 is only offered in the Spring semester, and GAME 480 is only offered in the Fall semester.

Q: Is there a Recommended Academic Plan for the Game Development minor?

A: The minor is meant to fit into the curriculum of any major. Here is one possible sequence of courses to take:

Semester 1, 2 or 3:
  GAME 220 (3 credits)
3-Credit MATH (required for GAME 250)
Other prerequisite courses for 400-level GAME courses

Semester 7 (Fall):
  GAME 480 (3 credits)

Q: Is it possible to complete the Game Development minor in two years?

A: The minor is meant to be completed with your major. However, if you plan ahead and start taking required courses in your first semester, it is theoretically possible to complete the requirements for the minor in two years. You still have to wait to declare the minor on LionPath after you have attained third-semester classification or declared your major.  Here is one possible sequence of courses to take:

Semester 1 (Fall):
  GAME 220 (3 credits)
3-Credit MATH (required for GAME 250)
Other prerequisite courses for 400-level GAME courses
Semester 2 (Spring):
  GAME 250 (3 credits)
GAME 160N or PSYCH 244 or GAME 140 (in spring) or GAME 251 (in summer)  (3 credits)
  PSYCH 434/GAME 434 or DIGIT 409 (3 credits)
Semester 3 (Fall):
  GAME 420 (3 credits)
  GAME 480 (3 credits)

Q: Is it possible to complete the Game Development minor in one year?

A: This is not possible due to the prerequisites required for the courses.
