Bees have Arrived, Next is a Bee Club

The wait is finally over for Associate Professor of Information Sciences and Technology, Galen Grimes, who recently received two bee colonies for the Penn State Greater Allegheny campus sustainability program.

Recently in The GA-Zette (“Bees Arrival on Campus Delayed Due to Cold Weather,” April 21, 2020) Grimes indicated that the bees were delayed, but that they were expected by month’s end.   However, a few days ago, the bees arrived at Grimes’ home, where he will feed them and nurture them, according to strict guidelines.  There will also be an inspection as to their health and upkeep.

Next stop:  Penn State Greater Allegheny!

Coming next to campus this fall is the bee club.

Strategic Planning and Communications Director, Victoria Garwood, and Grimes, will both co-advise the club.  According to Garwood, “during the student involvement fair being held at the beginning of fall semester” Grimes and herself “will start recruiting members.

“Any student who will be on campus next fall, and would like to learn more about bees and get involved with the club, can contact me now via email (vkg2@psu.edu)” Garwood said.  “Once we have five interested students, and they submit a constitution for review to our Student Affairs Office, we can be reviewed to be a recognized club at Greater Allegheny,” she added.

Nothing would be better than fresh honey.
