- Artifact: Sprite “The Thing About Dreams” Commercial
- Intro: show the advertisement
- Kairos played a huge role
- The murder of George Floyd sparked worldwide protests supporting the Black Lives Matter Movement
- Global pandemic that disproportionately affected people of color, especially in urban areas
- How is it civic?
- It is a civil rights movement
- Commonplaces
- Dreams are not reality
- The idea of a whole other aspect of America that has been forgotten about – this is Black America
- Forgotten about because separate from the people living the American dream in the suburbs – Black American reality predominantly seen in inner city areas
- Ad shows this through visuals: dilapidated housing, boarded up windows, graffiti, etc.
- Forgotten about because separate from the people living the American dream in the suburbs – Black American reality predominantly seen in inner city areas
- Frames civic engagement through the inclusion of protest footage/photos: this is one of the most important civic duties (according to our class activity earlier in the semester)
- Pathos: love of country and American dream but that love of the country doesn’t include Black Americans – they can’t love America the way other people can because the dream isn’t available to them
- Logos: the disparity between the American dream that many people live and the Black American reality is extremely unfair

I think using the advertisement’s name, “The Thing About Dreams”, as a transition to talk about the American Dream exclusion of Black Americans is smart to elaborate with pathos. I like the topic. I believe it could really effect the audience of your speech since the events are so recent.
Great outline! I’ll be interested to read more about this topic! You pulled some really great elements of the movement and they all play super great into your overall goal of the piece! I especially liked that you recognize the importance of photos and videos with keeping the movement going and how it’s civic! Maybe you can mention how tiktok has given our generation so many of these photos and videos. I know that’s how I saw a lot a lot of them. You can mention the tie between tiktok and gen Z too and how those tiktoks are targeted it towards us.
This is a great topic choice, and I haven’t actually seen the ad but I look forward to it. Your analysis seems really good, and it is clear what you are trying to make note of. Overall, it looks great so far!
