My name is Jamie Arnold, but I go by Jay and I am an Ammunition Officer assigned to 2d Marine Division.
I am stationed aboard Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC along the southeastern coast.
I have served in the Corps for the past twenty two years rising through the ranks from Private to Chief Warrant Officer and to my present rank of Captain. From a professional standpoint, I would consider myself to be approaching a crossroad. I have several years left (no more than 4) before I retire and pursue a career in the private sector.
The largest long term goal I have set is to earn my Master’s in Supply Chain Management in order to help me transition to the corporate world when I retire. A second goal is to assist my daughter with getting into the college of her choice in three years when she graduates from high school. Finally, I would like to secure a job upon retirement which will allow me to settle down and establish roots instead of moving every couple of years.
I would consider my leadership experience to be extensive, but also limited by the military environment I have worked in. This is a major reason I transferred to OLEAD from the LER degree track.
A favorite leadership quote of mine was spoken by President Ronald Reagan, “The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things”. A leader’s key attribute is the ability to motivate and persuade people, to bring out their best.
As far as highlights from my personal life go, I am a father of four children. Only one is still living in the home with the others in college or having already taken their place in the world. I enjoy training my German Shepherd and hunting. Spending time outdoors, especially in the woods and or national park system is perhaps my favorite activity. I have no unusual hobby, but I do have an unusual job experience to share. In my early twenties, I spent three years working as a funeral director and embalmer.
I look forward to working with everyone this semester. Good Luck!
Jay

Hi Jay,
First, thank you for your service to our great country! It’s great that you’re thinking ahead to what’s next for you after your service has completed.
Supply chain is no joke. I don’t think people understand the complexities of what goes into supply chain management. It’s a constant area of struggle of us at my work. This last year I had the opportunity to tour an Amazon distribution center and it was impressive. If you ever have the opportunity to do a tour at one of their DCs take it. They are leading the way and doing some really cool things.
Best of luck to you this semester.
Ryan
