Hi Everyone! My name is Jennifer Harrison-Rathfon and I currently am a Junior at Penn State World Campus. I live in Palmyra, Pennsylvania which is a small farm town right outside of Hershey; I grew up here as a child and as I got older lived in a few surrounding towns but was ready to come back after my husband and I got married. I have been working for the Hershey Medical Center for the past 9 years and a MOA (receptionist) and within the last m a MOA II (front desk manager). I was with the Army National Guard for the past 4 years and finished my term about a month after I got married last year and decided it was time to stay a civilian. I am pursuing my degree in Organizational Leadership and I would like to use that towards management or human resources within the hospital that I currently work for. As we all know life has its way of changing and causing us to re-route our lives and I have also considered continuing on for my masters in education once my bachelors degree is finished and go into the education field.
I would not say I have a favorite leadership quote but one I do like is from Ronald Reagan “When you can’t make them see the light, make them feel the heat.” — The reason I like this quote is because being a leader sometimes you cannot always show how important something is but you can make everyone feel how important it is and it will be in the end. I know a lot of people like to see results immediately but if you can work together in showing how great something will be once completed it can help motivate.
Something interesting about myself is my husband and I are coming up on our 1 year wedding anniversary this October 31st (and no we did not have a halloween themed wedding). My husband and I had met back when we both played rugby for Millersville University before I decided to stop college and pursue my career in the military to later return to school here at Penn State World campus when the time was right. We currently are expecting our first child in March on 2017 as well! I look forward to getting to know everyone and working together this semester.
