Lesson 6 Cultural Synergy Discussion
“Cultural Synergy builds on common ground, transcending mere awareness of difference to form multifaceted strategic alliances and partnerships” (Moran, 2014).
Once the decision to formulate a group aimed at synergy is agreed upon, the author of our textbook details that it is essential that the team “go through the four states of forming, storming, norming and performing” (Moran, 2014).
As it important to maintain the level of diversity involved within a group, according to our textbook Moran deems it valuable to ensure that uniqueness and flexibility should be encouraged”(Moran,2014).
Also a key part of the definition is what each individual in the group has to offer, essentially it is about the total group being greater than the sum of it parts, especially when it is for a common cause.
“In this manner, people who represent disparate perspectives and needs find ways through working together to seek a solution where all parties are content with the outcome and therefore together succeed”(Moran, 2014)
Are once this level of accomplishment begins to take effect, and real progress is noted it is important to maintain the achieved level throughout the project. As noted in our textbook , Moran states that it is important “To pause periodically from task pursuits to reexamine and reevaluate team progress and communications”(Moran, 2014).
Several years ago I was attending a soccer game where several members of one of the teams were not working as a whole, or even part of the team that they belonged too.
It seemed that the were acting on their own behalf, trying to score goals in efforts to enhance, and promote their own benefit, make themselves look good as far as their own personal scores, rather than to benefit the total outcome of the team.
There were not acting like “ proper team players “, and the entire team suffered due to that fact.
I feel as if it happened due to their own lack of personal commitment to their team, and a total lack of cohesiveness. Additionally they lost sight of the team goals, and decided to act as if they were alone on the playing field.
In the real world of global business, it is of key importance that the management of any business that is anticipating to conduct operations within the global environment enlist a leader who possesses a clear vision of the global corporate goals well as the ability to convey that vision to their enlisted teams. Equally important such a leader must incorporate the competence required to lead their teams towards the established goals, and do so in a fashion aligned with the corporate vision.
As listed in our text “ Many executives make provisions for team building or training within their organizations by qualified internal or external consultants. In such human relations training, leaders seek to cultivate a team environment that facilitates the group’s performance” (Moran, 2014).
Also found in the text are mindsets that team members would be advised in learning “ To foster trust, confidence, and commitment within the group“(Moran, 2014).
These ideals are key in order for a team to function as a whole. Since the team is only as good as its players, although the players all need to work as one team, rather than individual separate entities with their own personal goals in mind.
