Hello everyone, my name is Racheal Burgess, and I am a Sophmore in the Organization Leadership program, returning to school after 16 years. I am a Design supervisor in Charlotte, North Carolina, with 20 years of experience in Design Engineering, but this is my first supervisor role. I am excited about this course as my position includes trying to align design practices with my global counterparts in France and China. Communicating through web meetings and emails has been difficult, but I think the issue isn’t that we don’t speak the same primary language. We struggle to understand each other because of cultural norms and social queues. This semester I hope to gain a better understanding of my team members outside of the U.S.

Hello everyone,

My name is Mark Carmona.  I was born in Chula Vista, California (Just south of San Diego) and have lived in the area my entire life.  I love it down here.  The weather is amazing and the activities are endless!  I enjoy spending time with my family, especially on the weekends.  We usually go to the movies and enjoy checking out the local restaurants in the area.  During football season, we spend a great deal of time with the my in-laws.  We go over every Sunday to watch some games.  Although it hasn’t been the same since our Chargers left town.  Luckily, I am going to try and fill the void with our PennState team!  On a professional level, I manager nine Optical locations for a large HMO.  I really enjoy what I do.   I find it to be a perfect blend of business and healthcare which presents all sorts of interesting challenges.  Going through the OLEAD program has been an amazing experience so far.  I have been able put into practice several of the concepts we have studied almost in real time.  I look forward to working with all of you this semester!   Take care.  Mark

Hello Everyone!

My name is Jessie Buck, and I am now located in Atlanta, GA after relocating from Philadelphia last year.

After spending many years in Executive Assistant roles supporting multiple C-Level Executives, I am now the Program Manger for a company that works to promote female leadership to the next level. We have two levels of established programs, one for the director level, and the other for those who are at the senior level. We host about 15 programs a year all over the world and have about 1300 alumni, so I am usually traveling! I am the sole program manager of our first, yearlong, membership-based program where members focus on their legacy within their companies, have access to events and speakers, and have the ability to use our personal board of advisors, who have been in their respective C-Level roles for many years, to seek advice as needed. My long-term goal is to grow this program into different sectors of the business world or to bring my knowledge to another company and work to grow a leadership program for individuals within the company. I am working to complete my Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Development.

When I’m not traveling, I enjoy being able to see family and horseback riding on weekends!

Hello class,

My name is Alexander Welsh, but I go by Alec. This is my first full semester through World Campus. I spent two years at Penn State Altoona before transferring to University Park where I also spent two years. I am now finishing the remainder of my classes through World Campus.

I am twenty-three years old and am from outside of Philadelphia. I an Economics Major. I bounced around majors before finally choosing to pursue a degree in Economics. I am currently working full-time while trying to finish my degree so World Campus fits my schedule best.

I am a huge Philadelphia Sports fan with the Eagles ranking slightly above the Sixers, Phillies, and Flyers. I hope to learn a lot throughout this semester. I hope everyone enjoys their semester!

My name is Jennifer. I am pursuing a Bachelor’s in Psychology and am very happy to say I plan on graduating this Spring!

I live in Hackettstown, NJ, which is the home of Mars North America – it smells like chocolate in the morning. Not so great for my New Year’s Resolution to cut back on calories…

I work for a medical device company as a Sales Data Analyst and support leadership in terms of providing them with sales reporting and analytics. This course will help me as I grow within the organization and eventually support our team globally.

I am a single mother and have a twelve year old son. We love to hike, bake and play sports.

Hi all,

I’m Amelia Young, an Army veteran and retired CEO of a small marketing firm. I’ve travelled quite a bit throughout my life, living in Rhode Island, South Carolina, Germany, Texas, Indiana, Florida, North Dakota, and now Maryland. I currently care for my five-year-old granddaughter before and after school and attend PSU World Campus full time.

I enjoy attending school and after earning a visual communications degree in 2014 decided to pursue a degree in labor and employment relations. I began taking classes part time in 2016, but have attended full time over the past few semesters because I wanted to graduate in 2020. After graduation I will pursue an HR career with the veterans administration.

I’m taking this course because I think the material will be valuable to me as I pursue a career in HR, and it also satisfies a LER degree requirement.
