Dating back to the very first people on Earth, communication was a center point for civilization. It is absolutely essential to keep easily accessible, open communication lines with everyone in our lives. Communication is present all over this world whether it be in our everyday lives with friends and family, in business, etc. Every company in the world strives on successful communication to grow, make sales, and to ultimately prosper. Because communication is such a basic concept, we rarely ever think about it.
On a global level, communication is more prevalent than ever because of the language barrier. We are seeing in our world today that it is essential that the United States works with our countries to create new and better trade deals. When conducting all business with our countries, the communication between the United States and other countries has to be flawless in order for both sides to benefit.
Although communicating seems like a generally easy task from afar, there are actually numerous ways to disrupt the model of communication. For example, I the sender may not encode enough meaning into the idea being conveyed. We have all experienced someone in the workplace or school setting that used too few words. Another example of an error in communication is faulty technology. There is a wide range of examples within this error, but the idea is pretty clear. Along the path of delivery for a certain message, technology errors can occur causing the message to be interrupted.
Circling back to the global level of communication, the errors previously mentioned along with the many others occur much more frequently on a global level. The process for distant countries to communicate is much more difficult, thus allowing room for error. Many countries still do not even acquire the capabilities to communicate with distant countries. This is why it is essential for our world to continue to innovate. Advances in political and economic globalization have strengthened international exchanges between countries.

Hello,
Great blog read. Yes, the model of communication can get disruptive at times. I had sent an email last week, and it said “Could you please tell me the error message that you are receiving on your computer?” When I got their email response 4 days later, it just said “Contact your supervisor.” I decoded it as, I needed to reach out to my supervisor to further evaluate this issue. I was way wrong with my decoding. The error message on the computer screen was “Contact your supervisor.” If I would have read that email that same day, I probably would have decoded it differently! The person typing the email 4 days later could have also avoided short words and spelled out “The message on my computer screen was: contact your supervisor.” People tend to selectively perceive information from their own perceptual view (Moran, Abramson, Moran, 2014). Have you ever experienced an error in communication with email misreads like I had encountered?
Thank you!
-Miranda
