Throughout the course of history, we have all seen the way that humans interact and communicate continue to transform and evolve. Having said that, I myself have recognized that the ways I used to communicate and collaborate with people in the past, has totally changed in comparison to the way that I do today. In today’s society, the digital era has seemed to take over the way that people interact with one another. In my personal experiences, I believe that the simple phone call has now become a lost art form. People are much more prone to exchanging texts, use social media applications, or take place in virtual calls. For myself, I can say that I have adapted to the social media norms that have dominated today’s society. Although I try not to spend too much time on my apps, I believe that everyone in the course can resonate with the notion that social media is in fact addicting. The reason for this is because social media applications allow for us to connect with so many of our friends and loved ones in ways that were unfathomable before. For this reason, I believe that social media will continue to be a flourishing trend in our society for many years to come.
Another key component of communication and how we communicate can also be displayed through our professional work lives as well. Communication and collaboration in the workplace is an essential tool to success, and most of us have learned that without effective communication skills, it truly is hard to progress through life. In my personal example of this, I have decided to tie it back into my work. One of the key components of owning my own business is being able to communicate and collaborate with my staff and customers. As a youth basketball trainer, I also need to be able to communicate with children. As one may imagine, the way that I would communicate with a child is much different than I would with a parent or older individual.
The use of social media to promote my business and communicate with my potential customers and clientele is what has transformed the way that I operate on a daily basis. Social media can be used to post photos, videos, or updates that are communicated the the public and received by others to help promote and grow the business. As a communicator, I have realized that I need to be able to not only vocalize my thoughts, but also be an excellent listener that can adapt to others and listen well. Being respectful and aware of others feelings and backgrounds is a key part of effective communication.
Overall, I plan to continue mastering communication and bettering my communication forms and tactics on a daily basis. By doing so I will set myself up for success down the line, and I will also continue to raise my awareness to others and how they react to me as well. Having said all of this, I do expect for communication tools and processes to continue to evolve over time. As social media and the digital age keep expanding, so will the way that we as humans interact with one another. It has truly been amazing to see how these tools have been made available to our disposal. I am very excited to keep growing my business, yet I also want to continue to collaborate and work with others and my personal and professional career.

Konstantine-
You hit the nail on the head with your comment about a phone call being a lost art form. We have become so accustom to shooting off an email, or a text and playing the back and forth game instead of just picking up the phone and having an actual conversation.
There are so in this younger generation that have their faces buried in technology they are not able to form interpersonal relationships or have a face to face conversation. Have you ever been somewhere and tried to hold a conversation with a younger person who after a two-word replied is uncomfortable making eye contact on pursuing any additional verbal communication?
I think with business now and especially small business such as your in order to be successful and get the word out about the business and the success you are having that you must have social media accounts, so I am not against them and I believe they serve a purpose, but for me there is something about hearing about how passion a coach is or a hearing a peers excitement on what they learned. Anyone can write anything but it’s harder to be untruthful face to face or verbally (at least for most people).
With schools and employers working remotely now, I wonder how this will impact communication going forward and will our youth be more comfortable in front of a screen then face to face?
Great post, and I look forward to reading more of your blogs.
