Shining Light on Matter

Our group uses ultrafast linear and nonlinear optics from THz to infrared, visible and Xrays to probe optical and quantum materials, including ferroelectrics, strongly correlated electronic crystals, topological materials, polar metals, and multiferroics.

Lasers with different energy photons and pulse widths down to femtoseconds enable the study a variety of electronic, phononic and magnetic phenomena in materials.

Another focus is on high throughput materials discovery of new nonlinear optical crystals for optical communications and new laser wavelengths.

We are deeply interested in Symmetry, Group theory, and developing symmetry based-tools for materials research.

We are active users of X-ray Synchrotron facilities such as the Advanced Photon Source, Argonne, IL, and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Source.

We are also users of National High Magnetic Field Lab (NHMFL) at Los Alamos.
