When I was a kid I always dreamed of getting the chance to go to Hawaii. I heard so many amazing things about the island state and it truly got me hooked. When I was much older, I was lucky enough to have been given the chance to go to Maui in 2018. I may be biased when I say that Maui is the best island in Hawaii. When we were there we got to see a slice of the beauty that Maui offers. In this blog, I will be talking about a few of the things we did while we were there.
Mount Haleakala
Haleakala is a must-see while in Maui because of its amazing beauty. It is a mountain on the island that peaks out of the clouds and provide a marvelous view of the island. When we went to visit, we woke up at 12:30 in the morning in order to drive there. I do not think anyone goes this early because we were the only people there and we did not even have to pay the toll because there was no one working there. We arrived at around 3:00 in the morning and in the pitch black, you could see the glow from a volcano on another island in the distance. By sunrise, we were sitting above the clouds and it felt amazing. It was pretty cold so if you go make sure to bring some layers.
Road to Hana
The road to Hana is a common tourist destination in Maui. It is a long road that goes along the coast of the island until you reach Hana, a small isolated town. The coastline is very beautiful and there are many stops along the way to see various waterfalls. When we went, it was actually very stressful. The road is extremely windy and very thin. It is a two-way road but really has only enough room for one car. There were many times when we had to go in reverse just to get to a point where a person could get around us. Besides those few stressful times, the drive was worthwhile and I recommend it to anyone going.
PipiWai Trail
This trail is a common tourist location for many people searching for beautiful waterfalls. The hike brings you to three separate waterfalls and takes you through a large bamboo forest. This bamboo forest was one of my favorite parts of the trip because it came out of nowhere and felt like it extended for miles.
Ever since I watched Lilo and Stich I’ve always wanted to visit Hawaii. The island is beautiful. The road to Hana is an engineering marvel. I’ve heard its quite controversial since it interferes with the islands natural landscape.
I am so jealous that you were able to go to Maui. Hawaii is such a beautiful state and has been on my travel bucket list for as long as I can remember. I would love to go to Mount Haleakala. It sounds like such a peaceful and amazing moment to just connect with nature and the beauty that surrounds us. I would also be interested in hiking the PipiWai Trail as the combination of waterfalls and a bamboo forest sounds like another example of all the natural beauty out there. However, as an admitted scaredy cat, I think I’ll pass on the Road to Hana. I don’t enjoy my vacations being stressful and potentially life-threatening. Your clear appreciation for all of nature’s beauty explains your dedication to protecting this planet demonstrated in your civic issues blog. Great post!
I wish I was you I have never been to Hawaii. It has to be the top place I want to visit that I have yet to visit. Also, Ithink a lot of people think of just the beaches in Hawaii, you do a great job incorporating other tourist attractions to visit in Hawaii when you are there. That just made me want to go more!
