Hello,
Rebecca Henn passed along this article and book to help me in developing my thesis writing style. She emphasized that there were some stylistic things within them that could be helpful in articulating my arguments. The Anteby article has nothing to do with architecture, but the use of words is what she wanted me to take note of. Rebecca emphasized that Anteby was straight to the point and it’s easy to see the connections between A, B, and C. Useful phrases like the notion that…, extending this insight to…, when applied to…, this view can be understood as…, or past research remarks that… can lead the reader along easily to see your logic and argument.

Thank you, Mike. It’s very important to keep academic writing style on check. In one writing class I took, the professor insisted a lot on getting rid of the passive vocie to produce concise and powerful statements.
Cheers and productive writing,
Dario
Absolutely get rid of passive voice!!! In some sciences, they require you to use it and I think that’s absurd 🙂
