Weird

Luckily while in State College the political world isn’t slapped in front of my face. I’m not saying politics aren’t important; however, these past couple of days has brought me to wonder how this country, built upon the pride of our great people, has a current president and presidential candidates that aren’t normal. I absolutely respect what they do for our country especially during a time of crisis like we are living through today; however, the people leading our country I find very hard to relate to.

I’m not questioning their experience, knowledge, or views,  nor am I siding with one political party. All I’m trying to say is that these politicians, no matter what side of the aisle they are on, are… weird. I understand that their lives aren’t normal. They are constantly in front of media attention and surrounded by the secret service at every moment.

I truly believe that we live in the greatest country in the world, and with that label I feel like we would have better options running in 2020. Again, I’m not talking about their views, I’m looking at them on the most basic of levels. A couple years back the Washington Post dug deeper into this outlook. They uncovered that President George H.W. Bush was amazed at the working of a grocery store scanner.  During an interview with President Bush 43, he forgot what the search engine was that so many of rely on. We call it Google.

Coming home from spring break my friend group ran into a man outside of home depot running for a county judge position in Maryland. He came over to us and was advocating us to get out and vote in the upcoming election. That generation of adults always seems to knock on us for not showing up to the polls.

We aren’t interested. We always hear that young people need to get engaged with politics. Why aren’t we? We always talk about which policies we support. But for me how can I support and fully understand a policy, when I can’t even understand the person behind the policy itself?

In this commercial, there is an abundance of adults being “smart” with us and saying that the problems in our world should only be worrisome to our generation such as school shootings and climate change. They are laughing at us because they think we don’t care.

We care, but little do they know we are laughing at them. We know that our generation will produce leaders that will overcome the setbacks that our generation is going to have to face.
