Amrita Basak wins early career award for gas turbine research

Amrita Basak, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, was selected as the 2024 Dilip R. Ballal Early Career Engineering Award winner by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ International Gas Turbine Institute. According to the ASME website, the award recognizes an individual’s “outstanding accomplishments” in the field of turbomachinery during the beginning of their career.
Established in 2013, the Dilip R, Ballal Early Career award is the only early career award given out by IGTI. Basak is now the third Penn State mechanical engineering faculty member to win the award. Professor Jacqueline O’Connor won in 2018 and Associate Research Professor Reid Berdanier won in 2020.
