It’s easy to stay in shape when you have a required basketball practice or soccer practice every night, and you come home to a nice healthy home-cooked meal. But how do you avoid the “freshman 15” when suddenly there are no sports practices to go to and a nice buffalo chicken cheese steak from the Mix calling your name?
I was so excited coming into my first week at Penn State to have access to awesome athletic facilities with endless basketball courts to play on. I soon discovered those courts are closed all summer for volleyball camps and wrestling camps, and my only option was the outdoor courts. Turns out, a few pickup games on the sand-covered pavement every night do help to keep me in shape, even if it means being the only girl on the court. I may stick to the assists instead of getting my shot blocked, but as long as I have a ball in my hand and I’m getting the exercise it’s worth it. As long as I stay away from Canyon Pizza and Insomnia cookies I think I’m on the right track to avoiding the freshman 15.
