Not Your Average Tapestry

Hi friends! Welcome to blog post number three, where I will be giving some super cute, inexpensive, and not-so-basic room decoration ideas! These ideas serve to personalize your dorm room in ways that are more than just your average tapestry.

String Lights

While almost every dorm room has string lights hanging around their ceiling, try making a “tapestry” with your string lights! Not only does it add some extra light to your room, but it adds a little sense of coziness every time they turn on. This is super easy to do, too! All you need are some white string lights, clear push-pins, and sheer white curtains (mine are from Walmart). Here are the steps:

  1. Start by placing the push pins about ten inches apart from each other, starting from the corner of your room, and ending at the edge of your bed (see picture).
  2. Then, start stringing in a zig-zag formation like you see in the picture! If you want to make sure the lights stay in place, you can pin the bottom hanging lights so that they won’t budge.

One tip: I have a timer that plugs into my outlet so that my lights turn on at night and are off during the day. These are super convenient because this will allow your lights to turn off while you’re at class, and then they won’t burn out as quickly!

A Name Tag (Well, Sorta)

I absolutely love this painting that my sister made for me (yes, she hand wrote that!). A-Train has been my nickname for my whole life, and whenever I look at this sign it makes me think of my family and how much I love them! Making one of these is really simple and it’s a great touch to personalize any dorm! You just need a canvas, white paint, colored paint of your choice, and either a gold or silver paint pen. Then, get busy:

  1. Paint the whole canvas white, this gives it a clean and crisp background, Wait a few minutes for it to dry.
  2. Once the white paint has dried, start using the color of your choice and go crazy! Paint it however you want to, because after all, it’s your room! Allow the paint to fully dry before using the paint pen.
  3. Once the canvas has completely dried, use the paint pen to write your name, nickname, or monogram! Allow it to dry and hang it up with some push-pins.

Make-Shift Bedskirt

This bedskirt is an absolute life saver, because it not only adds a cute flair to your room, but it also hides all the junk underneath your bed. I also love this bedskirt because you are able to reach underneath your bed and get anything you need to, all you have to do is pull the curtains to the side. You just need a tension rod and some short curtains (I got mine here)!

  1. Measure the distance from underneath your bed, and then set the curtain rod the that length.
  2. Then, slide on the curtains!
  3. Put your tension rod under your bed, and you’re good to go!

I hope my three decoration ideas gave you some inspiration for your dorm! Check back next week for some dorm-friendly mug cakes!

Xo,

Happy Chappy
