Degredation

by Kelly Ketterman

Birds on destitution’s edge
Gather on the wires
Forced to habitats of stone and muck
Feeding by the tires
Disturbed ranges of distressed native plants
Clustered along the side
Sustained only by rhythmic splashes.

Diets of swill and brine
In states of natural prisons
It is here that nature becomes enslaved
Limiting life’s existence
By the lines that we pave.
