Fallen Routine by Nicole Koch

My roommate pukes
Every morning
Through razor sharp
Walls the faucet
Runs frozen for
Four minutes while
I wait for the bathroom
To be free
The shower is warm
Until it’s not and I
Get out surrounded
By a smokey cure to
A stomach ulcer which
Could be worse
Depending on what
Kind of day
Was yesterday

On Sunday we wish
It was Thursday then
Wednesdays we want
It to be Saturday
And every morning
We want it to be
Last night and
Every night
We like to get drunk
And wonder how
We made it
Or if we’ll ever
Make it away
From frozen pipes
And shivering vents
While we place bets
Wondering what day
That squirrel
Fumbling
Inside our walls
Will finally die
