Trusting by Lauren Smith

You said it’s nothing personal, that’s just how feelings work.
Yeah, but you took my heart and dragged it through the dirt.
And if that’s the way it goes,
Than God only knows what we’re becoming.
How can all the things we did and said be nothing?

I know you must’ve felt something.
But your friends are telling me you’re no good.
I just wish I understood,
how months of talk and love,
with you just isn’t enough.

Now that’s a lesson I’ve learned the hard way.
Never be too sure of what people say.
Because then it becomes hard adjusting,
Trying to go back to not feeling that way.
Now I’ve got trouble trusting.

You were hoping this would just blow over,
That my feelings wouldn’t take over.
But you lead me on for far too long,
But when they do you like that it just makes you strong.

So don’t tell me you miss me when you’re only a couple drinks deep,
Haven’t you heard that talk is cheap?!
That’s a lesson you’ll learn the hard way,
Never be too sure of what people say.
Because then it becomes hard adjusting,
Trying to go back to not feeling that way.
And you wonder why I have trouble trusting.
