One contraversial topic for the History of a Public Controversy Project is the legalization of marijuanna. There are two sides to this arguement, people want it banned for many reasons. One reason is the lung damage that comes along with marijuanna and people don’t think that should be allowed. On the other side, others have the New Hampshire mindset of “Live Free or Die” and think it should be each individual’s choice. I think this is a good topic to talk about the history of the contraversey of because you can talk about the different impacts it has on different people and weither there is real evidence that it should be banned or not.
Animal testing is another contraversial topic that would be a good topic. Arguing weither or not animals should be used to test new products just because their animals is a topic that has been debated for a long time. We could talk about if there are harmful impacts on the animals, evidence of abuse, or if people just don’t like the idea of animal testing because we wouldn’t do it to people.

With this being the last blog post, I’ll dedicate this one to the holiday season. Christmas music is one of the happiest types of music there possibly is. I feel like everyone can agree to that. When people think of the holiday season, everyone mainly thinks of the same ideas: decorations, food, snow, and music . Music is such a defining part of the christmas season, it wouldn’t be the same without it. With that being said, there are some christmas songs that top all others, and that’s what I’ll talk about today.
I think the most classic Christmas song that is worth mentioning is “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey. This is universally a known song that almost everyone knows within the first few seconds being played. If I hear this song played at any point during the year I am immedietly brought back to the warm, cozy, Christmas mood. Mariah Carey’s whole Christmas album is a classic staple during the Christmas season.
“Last Christmas” by Wham! is another classic Christmas song that everyone knows. I feel like people can relate to this song at anytime of the year, not just Christmas time. This is another song that I feel like everyone recognizes within the first few seconds of being played.
I usually don’t mention songs I don’t like, but one Christmas song I’ll never reccomend to anyone is “Baby It’s Cold Outside.” Every remake, every version, I absolutley hate. I don’t know if it’s just me, but something about this song is just not Christmas at all.
“Little Saint Nick” by The Beach Boys is a less played Christmas song that I love. My dad always played this song when I was a kid, so know everytime I hear it, it reminds me of home. I love The Beach Boys’ voices too, they remind me of old television shows, if that makes any sense.
I saved the best one for last, one of my all time favorite Christmas songs is “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by Band Aid. I love the music in this song, and the variety of voices too. Daddy’s Home 2 is one of my favorite Christmas movies, and this song is a big part of that movie, so the two just remind me of each other.
Christmas music is the only thing playing for the entire month of December for me. Every car ride, every walk, and every TV has Christmas music playing only. This is how it should be for the entire holiday season, I believe.

I’m sure like many people, I try to avoid being sad when possible. Nobody voluntarily wants to be sad, right? That being said I think there are some times when sad music is called for, not necessarily to feel sad, but it fits the vibe or mood. For example, late night walks. There’s certain songs I listen to that are probably “sad” or more on the depressing side, but they just fit the occasion. I don’t want to be blasting my hype music while on a casual walk by myself after a long day. I would rather be playing Gracie Abrams and The Neighbourhood.
The first song I recommend for this occasion is “I miss you, I’m sorry” by Gracie Abrams. Anything I say about her voice is an understatement because I think her singing is amazing. It feels so real to listen to her sing, and you can feel the passion in her voice. The lyrics of this song is a whole nother story. I feel like almost everyone can relate to the lyrics in some way, I definetly can, and that makes listening to it ten times better. You can really feel her passion in the song and your own feelings all together.
The next song I play on a late night walk is “Daddy Issues” by The Neighbourhood. This song has a slow pace, which is why I like it so much. It fits the mood of the night, and also has good lyrics. Can you tell I love song lyrics? “You ask me what I’m thinking about, I tell you that I’m thinking about, Whatever you’re thinking about” is SUCH good lines, and the voice of the singers makes it that much better. This song is a little more sad, but I will pick it every single time.
Another song I love is “Nobody Gets Me” by SZA. This song is for the people that related heavily to Gracie Abrams. If you relate to these lyrics, then listening to it just makes it that much better. SZA’s voice is also another level of good, it’s so raw and real. It’s the type of voice that you know would sounds good in concert because there’s no autotune.
The last song I’ll reccomend is probably one of the saddest songs, and I have cried to this one. “The Night We Met” by Lord Huron is really one of the saddest songs I’ve ever heard. The lyrics, the voice, the slow pace, everything about it is so unbeliebably sad but also unbelievably good. I think it’s one of the best made songs because it really does it all.

This coming Thursday is October 31st. One could say it’s thriller Thursday. Everyone knows what that means, it’s Halloween. This week’s blog post will be dedicated to just that, songs of the Halloween season. These could be songs made specifically for Halloween, or songs that I think fit the Halloween vibe, not necessarily made for the holiday.
The first song I’ll mention is one that wasn’t made for Halloween, but has become widely associated with Halloween, and probably isn’t played at any other time of the year. “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell featuring Michael Jackson is probably one of the most well known songs of the season. Everyone reading this can most likley hear this song played in their head right now. The eerie lyrics make the song relevant to the holiday, and I also personally feel that any Michael Jackson song can be said to be a Halloween song.
To go along with that, “Thriller” is another one of the most popular Halloween songs. Going along with my alliteration in the beginning, this Halloween is also “Thriller” Thursday. Unlike “Somebody’s Watching Me,” “Thriller” was released with the intentions of becoming a Halloween song. The music video features Michael Jackson as a zombie, dancing a bunch of creepy characters. I think that these two songs I just mentioned go really well together, they have similar backround music/rhytmn, and obviously feauture the same artist.
Straying away from the more creepy vibe, “Monster Mash” is a classic Halloween song that can never go wrong. This song reminds me of elementary school, wearing your costume to school, trick or treating, and trading candy. I’m immedietly brought back to 4th grade class halloween parties and the crisp air of my home town. This song takes the most nostalgic route of the Halloween genres.
Another song that’s nostalgic, and one that everyone knows, is “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr. from the original Ghostbusters movie. Everyone knows the beat of this song, probably within the first two beats. This song also brings me back to my childhood, although I’ve never seen the movies.
I can definetly say that I like the first two songs I mention for the Halloween season, a more creepy, eeire feeling. I love the Halloween movies, Scream, all the old scary movies with this scarier type of music. I think the last two songs I mentioned are more children’s type Halloween music, but obviously it can be the favorites of people of any age.

The link above leads to one of my favorite Ted Talks. It’s called Robert Waldinger: What makes a good life? Lessons from the longest study on happiness. One of the reasons I like this talk so much is beacuse it is based on a real life study of people from when they were teenagers up into their 90s. The study showed that happy realtionships in a person’s life is what leads to the happiest, healthiest life. Not money, not fame, but people. I think this is so important to hear, especially at our age.
I think I want to do my research topic on the evolution of knowledge of the human brain, and how overtime, we have discovered more about how the brain works, and how these new discoveries have impacted our lives, how we fucnton, how we view things, and h0w we act overall as humans. The brain is a fascinating subject to me. I’ve always been interested in being in tune with how my own brain works, processing emotions, and just being aware of how my brain reacts to things. Studying about what we know about the brain not only is a deep topic I can pull alot of research out of, but it is also one of my favorite topics.

This week I’m going to focus on a specific album that I fell in love with as soon as I heard it. “Pink Friday 2” came out on December 8th, 2023 by Nicki Minaj. I remember when this album came out I listened to nothing else for months. I’m only a little bit obsessed with it. “Pink Friday” the original album came out in 2010. So while it’s been a long time coming for this next album, it did not disappoint let me tell you.
This album has a special place in my heart because of the time period in my life when it came out. I don’t know if anyone else relates to this, but certain songs remind me of certain times in my life when I would listen to them over and over, and when I hear them now I’m brought straight back to that time. This album specifically reminds me of bastball game season (watching school games not playing), me and my best friend going everywhere together, and these songs playing during all that.
I’m sure everyone knows “Pink Friday Girls,” which is probably the most well known song on this album because it was trending on Tiktok. This song is a play on “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper, and Nicki incouperated her own style into it. Let’s talk about some of the other songs though.
The BEST song on this album, by far, no argument, I will stand on this until I die, is “Last Time I Saw You.” There’s a multitude of reasons why I love this song. One, I relate heavily to the lyrics, which just makes listening to it ten times more enjoyable. Secondly, I love how it’s differently passed than a typical Nicki Minaj song. It’s not her typical loud, in your face, rap type of song. She actually sings in it, and her voice is beautful. If asked for a song, nine times out of ten I’ll be playing this one.
Another song on this album I really like is “Needle” which features Drake. This is another laid back song, and it has a really good rythem. I like when artists include features on their albums, it’s a nice variety and break from the same voice for ten or fifteen songs straight. I’m bias because I personally already love Drake, but his feature in this song was a good addition because his voice blends nicely with her’s.
I only talked about two songs but the rest of the 22 songs are all deserving of their own paragraphs too. If you’ve never heard anything on this album, I reccomend checking it out!
