An Online Ad
Try to watch one without crying…

Sarah McLachlan
We all know what is about to happen when we see Sarah McLachlan’s face come across our TV screens. She asks us for our generous donation of only $19 a month to support ASPCA and homeless pets across the country. While all of the commercials are sorrowful, some of the worst are the ones that come on as winter approaches. Videos of dogs shivering in the cold and unsettling statistics relating to just how many animals are left out in the cold over the winter.
The reason why kairos is so prevalent in these winter ads is because it emphasizes the importance of the timing to donate. Since winter is inevitable, the audience is beckoned to take action. This is an extremely persuasive approach, which is why they are so many people who choose to donate. Additionally, it heavily relies on pathos and it is obviously successful because so many people cry while watching their commercials. There is nothing worse than watching a video of suffering animals while someone is telling you that you have the power to make a difference.
They’ve got my support

Look at that face!
ASPCA has gained my support. They have done a great job making a reputation for themselves in terms of their emotional ads. Their ads that are specific to winter strikes fear into the hearts of their audience, and convinces them to support their organization. If you want to know exactly what I am talking about, just watch this. My main point is how they emphasize the urgency of approaching winter and its harsh conditions on animals that are abused and left outside.
Too bad the CEO takes 750K per year for a salary. I think that’s very wrong and unnecessary. I donate to other charities instead of them.
Hi Susan, thanks for your comment. This was an assignment for an English class, so I’m not sure how or why you found my post. We had to write about how media strikes emotion in audiences to accomplish their purpose. I know there are organizations that are quite corrupt, but this post was not intended to try and convince people to donate to ASPCA. it was simply to complete an assignment about kairos
