Welcome to my blog!
My name is Heidy (hey-dee) Canales a senior at Penn State University from Prince George’s County, Maryland. I’m majoring in Public Relations with minors in Latino/a Studies and Portuguese.
On campus I’ve been heavily involved, from internships with Penn State Athletics Strategic Communications to being president of Latino Caucus to being the publicity chairman for my sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. I was also apart of the DC Social Justice Fellowship, the Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowship, and even received a scholarship from the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation.
I ultimately want to pursue a career in the intersection of social justice and communications to ensure that the voices within marginalized communities are amplified. I want to bring awareness to the importance of representation within the media industry and I want to ensure that large corporations are using their power and influence to give back to the communities that support and uplift them.
