Ever see a group of four gathered around a yellow net? They look so experienced, the game looks so intense, everyone is jumping around, and what is even going on?! Well, what you see there is spike-ball and in reality it isn’t as hard as you think. Spikeball is actually a sport slowly gaining national recognition and some of the more experienced games are even covered on ESPN. However, wether you are a first time player or a long time pro spike-ball is a fun game to de-stress and play with your friends.
This past week I took it upon myself to gather a group of friends with a spike-ball net and grab some fun music to check out what spike-ball is all about. The goal of the game is to reach 11 points with your teammate. A point is acquired when the other team either can not return the ball the net, the ball double hits the net or another players hand and when the ball hits off the rim and not the net. You start every round with the serve like in volleyball then each team has three hits to return the ball to the other team.
During a time when there is a lot of stress due to exams, quizzes, tests, or just falling behind on work it is so important to take a break and do something fun. If you don’t have any friends with a spike-ball set they are sold in stores everywhere just try looking in your local Walmart or Target! Even though at first the game seems a little intimidating the more practice you get the better of a player you will become and the more fun you can have! Don’t be afraid to try new things and get active outside before it gets too cold. Happy Spiking!
