Specific Course and Program Information
In partnership with Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Heart and Vascular Institute and the Clinical Simulation Center, the Resuscitation Sciences Training Center has provided AED placements in the community for over ten years. Placements have been made to fire and police departments, private schools, churches and community groups. Distributions, which are limited in number in any given year, are based upon the review of completed application forms.
Each year the RSTC has a limited number of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to distribute in the community. AEDs are lifesaving devices that deliver a specialized shock to the heart in an effort to restart it following certain types of cardiac arrest. AEDs should be part of a comprehensive Public Access Defibrillation program that includes the AED and trained responders.
CPR in the Schools
In 2016, the RSTC introduced the American Heart Association Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) system for maintenance of Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support. The RQI program eliminates the need to recertify every two years by taking a long CPR class. Instead, RQI maintains a healthcare provider’s CPR certification with short quarterly manikin practice that coaches CPR to perfection.
