We made it! As of yesterday, HESE Affordable Greenhouses has been settling in sunny Lusaka, shaking off our jet lag and enjoying the beautiful Zambia weather as we formulate our game plan for the next two weeks.
For all who are unfamiliar, the HESE affordable greenhouse team seeks to provide smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa with our low-cost greenhouses, which create jobs and deliver nutritious produce to local communities. We currently have over 75 operating greenhouses throughout Sub-Saharan African countries including Sierra Leone, Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, and in a few days, Zambia!
But before we get to building, we need to prepare for the rest of the trip. Today, the whole team hunkered down to plan. Fueled by piles of the Zambian staple dish, nshima, we discussed the logistics of obtaining the necessary materials while also finalizing our respective research studies and papers. It has been a relaxing two days in Lusaka, but tomorrow the team moves out to start construction! Updates to come.
