Today started off in downtown Choma again, gathering the last of the supplies for the greenhouse. Team members purchased the wood needed and had it transported to the next building locations. Back at the current site, we connected with our wonderful carpenter. He knows the area, and is going to be a huge asset for us.
All greenhouse team members, the carpenter, and Khanjan had a brief group meeting with about twenty local women today to introduce the idea of the greenhouse and generate interest. The women had many questions on how crops grow in this environment and how to divide work and produce to make the most of the greenhouse. We look forward to working with them over the next few days.
Beginning construction was an exciting part of our day. We cleared and leveled the ground, with the help of the Ukweli and 3DP teams. A big thank you to the 3DP team for also cutting the washers needed from plastic jugs. After a long morning, it felt great to see the cleared ground before greenhouse construction!
Next up was the complicated process of measuring the land and marking the places for all the posts. The digging tool was a huge success, and made digging the holes a lot easier. We’re happy to know that checking the digging tool through the airport was well worth our time. The greenhouse team laid a good foundation for the first greenhouse, and we are all excited to put up the frame!
