An integral part of furthering any venture is working to promote it in a way that is accessible and informative to future customers, potential partners, and the general public. Throughout the past semester, several team members dedicated their time to updating and modernizing the website, creating a promotional video, writing farmer success stories, and creating a business flyer among other things. Today at the WHI office, these efforts were continued with several team members joining in on the efforts.
Atyia, our resident photographer for the trip, set out to get on the ground images of daily operations here in Sierra Leone. This included photographing the facilities, staff to farmer training sessions, tasks within the WHI greenhouse, and much more. With up to date images we will able to show a realistic depiction of the continuing advancements being made to transform the venture into a sustainable business. Leah, Nolan, and Sara added to these efforts by creating informational slides that encompass the whole of the greenhouse venture. From the history of the venture, to greenhouse technology, to future projections these will be used to present at a variety of forums to various audiences.
Another tool was added to our staff’s tool belt today in the form of soil testing kits. Easy to use, accurate, and low cost the information gained from these tests will be used to inform both the staff and our customers on the fertility of their soil by testing for nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, and pH. All of these are critical factors that contribute to the health and fruitfulness of crops being planted in the area. With this knowledge, educated decisions can be made on how to treat the soil so as to boost crop yields.
