Research
Reaction-Induced Phase Transitions
Composites and block copolymers will self-assemble into ordered nano- and micro-scale structures. The Hickey Group explores ways to modify these structures through the use of nanoparticles, grafted species, and polymer functionalization.
Non-Equilibrium Processing of Hydrogels
Amphiphilic Hydrogels will self-assemble on contact with water, forming hydrogel networks. The Hickey Group is examining the effects of rapid, non-equilibrium processing and the resulting gels whose structures mimick natural tissues.
Responsive Materials
Changes in external environments result in morphological changes in responsive materials. The Hickey Group examines the behavior of block copolymers in response to light and acidity.
Collaborations
The Hickey Group has multiple ongoing collaborations with researchers in other fields, including investigation of polymer membranes, synthetic tissues, and ion conduction.
