STEMSEAS

In October of 2018 I spent two weeks in the Bering Sea on the R/V Sikuliaq through the STEMSEAS program. STEMSEAS gives undergraduate students (both in STEM and non-STEM fields) the chance to experience life at sea and participate in oceanographic research during vessel transits.

One of the projects I worked on was to determine microbial community composition at different heights in the water column using MinION, a real-time, portable DNA/RNA sequencer, and the MinIT analyzer.

Faculty and graduate students that are interested in the program are also invited to apply to mentor a transit!
