- Description – In this sculpture it depicts Buddha’s descent from Trayastrimsha heaven. He visited Trayastrimsha to preach the dharma to this mother. The three steps under him show the ladder he’s descending down back to Earth. Buddha is standing tall with a slight angle above the waist. He is shown with one arm by his side and another lifted up with his palm out. He is surrounded by 6 other people. One of which is standing next to him holding an umbrella. Some of the other beings surrounding him are holding a flywhisk which is a tool used to swat flies away from you. There are other people who present Buddha with garlands which is a form of a wreath. This is a rather small sculpture and was likely very meticulous and difficult to sculpt. It’s made of ivory. There is some black on the sculpture on the heads of some of the people surrounding buddha.
